  • (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2019 - The Peruvian Ministry of Mining and Energy has issued Supreme Decree No. 009-2017-EM approving “Reglamento Técnico sobre el Etiquetado de Eficiencia Energética a Productos Energéticos” – Technical Regulation on the Labeling of Energy Efficiency to Energy Products.

Originally published on April 7, 2017, this technical regulation requires a variety of products to be evaluated using specifications in the applicable annexes. Following this, the product must be marked with the correct new energy label, with certification by an accredited Certified Body (CB).

Products that are affected by the new regulation include:
    • Refrigeration appliances
    • Washing machines
    • Tumble Dryers
    • Air conditioning equipment
    • Instantaneous and tank electrical water heaters
    • Instantaneous and tank gas water heaters
    • Lamps for domestic use (LED, fluorescent and incandescent)
    • Electrical engines
    • Electrical & electronic ballast
    • Industrial boilers

Stakeholders should be aware the decree also states that applicable products, offered for sale before the effective date, must also comply with the new energy labeling requirements at the point of sale. This means, to comply with the law, manufacturers and suppliers of affected electrical and electronic products should now seek certification for their products from an accredited CB to ensure they don’t miss the implementation date.

The decree was originally expected to be implemented on April 7, 2019, but this was postponed until April 7, 2020, by Supreme Decree No. 009-2019-EM, issued on April 6, 2019.
