  • (1888PressRelease) October 13, 2010 - At SIAL 2010, PERLES DE GASCOGNE will preview its two new cold-pressed virgin oils, walnut oil, and plum oil, as well as its new organic line, and its new glass-bottle packaging solution, which is being rolled out across the entire range. The company has brought its packaging up to date in order to reflect its high-quality produce and savoir-faire.

PERLES DE GASCOGNE grows its own hazelnut and plum trees in the département of Lot-et-Garonne, on land which is situated about 40km from Agen, a town that is well known for the production of prunes. The area has been protected by an IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée, or protected geographical status) since 2002.

The company began by producing cold-pressed virgin oil using hazelnuts. In 1998, PERLES DE GASCOGNE became the first producer of prune kernel oil. The company will present these products at SIAL 2010, along with two new items - organic plum oil and walnut oil. PERLES DE GASCOGNE will showcase all these products, in newly branded packaging, on its stand at SIAL (Hall 5A, Aisle LM, Booth 71).

PERLE DE GASCOGNE's prune kernel oil, which is better known as plum oil, was developed by Jean-Pierre Clavié, a farmer, and the founder of the company. This first cold-pressed virgin oil is made from the kernel inside the prune, and does not require the use of any solvents or chemicals. Naturally rich in vitamin E, which provides it with antioxidant properties, this oil can be used in cooking, and is already used by some of the big names in gastronomy; The oil is also stocked in fine-food stores in France, across the rest of Europe and in Asia.

Prune kernel oil is also naturally used in cosmetics. This innovative product was awarded a gold medal at SIAL 2002, and received the Hubert Curien Prize in 2005 for its technological efficiency and contribution to a greener environment.

The company's first cold-pressed virgin walnut oil will be unveiled at SIAL 2010. The oil is made from high-quality AOP Périgod unbroken walnut kernels, whereby Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) identifies French produce from a region that is highly regarded for the quality of its products. This oil has the smooth taste of fresh, untoasted walnuts, and stands out thanks to a high content of essential fatty acids. Additionally, it is especially rich in OMEGA 3, which is well known for benefiting cardiovascular health.
