  • (1888PressRelease) November 22, 2013 - Market research released this month claims British retail stands to gain £2 billion more sales than last year. The figures would lead to the best seasonal growth since 2007. There has also been research released which indicates early Christmas shoppers are a growing and distinct force - particularly around the UK regions. Commercial property specialists Pearl & Coutts will be moving retailers into new premises during the pre-Christmas season. They welcomed the forecasts for growth and advised potential retailers to look carefully at locations to maximise their profits.

It has been reported that this Christmas, UK consumer spending in the final quarter is likely to raise some 2.2 per cent compare to the same period last year. This would bring the total spend to an estimated £88.4 billion. And that figure is significantly higher than the £82.4 billion of the final quarter of 2007, before the nation's economic woes began to really bite. Analysts have suggested a 'baby boom' during the recession years means that this year's parents simply need to buy for more children. There is also a sense that consumer confidence has improved, with a resulting uplift in spending. October's sales were up some 2.6% on the same month in 2012. This is all obviously good news for anyone looking for a shop to rent during the coming months. However, other research released in the last few weeks spelt out there is no time to lose to catch the wave of seasonal spending.

Early Christmas shoppers apparently fall into distinct subgroups. Their spend is influenced by how much time they have to shop, their income and where they live. Interestingly those with a household income of £100,000 or more were likely to shop early if they lived in certain cities outside London. Overall, a profile emerged of early festive shoppers aged 45 - 60 years old or affluent families, living in rural areas or perhaps the more distant suburbs of towns and cities. They tend to be motivated by a desire to ensure everything is at home ready to wrap long before stocks could run out. And this of course gives shops a welcome boost long before December rolls in.

"We will be helping many UK retailers to find a new shop to rent over the next 2 months. It's important to get rapidly matched to the best available shop to let that matches your exact needs, not the agents. It's equally important to know that the company you're working with has a good understanding of the location. It should translate into sustained success all year round," said a spokesman from Pearl & Coutts commercial property company.
