  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) September 01, 2011 - The Woodshed Gallery in Franklin, MA (Metro West Boston) is hosting a reception for four local fine artists on Saturday, September 10, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The reception, which is open to the public, celebrates the group exhibition of original fine art by local artists Paul Peterson of Medway, and Tina Guarino, Brenda Hutchinson and Gail Ekberg of Franklin. The exhibition is on display from September 1-24, 2011.

The exhibition features fine art oil, watercolor and pastel paintings, including some which depict local scenes.

The artists are all members of the Franklin Art Association, and they are well known to those who follow the local art scene. For this exhibition, they have chosen several newly created pieces which have not previously been exhibited.

Paul Peterson began painting in watercolor about 30 years ago, but has been devoted to oil painting over the past 20 years. Although he took several watercolor workshops many years ago, he considers himself to be largely self-taught. He very much enjoys plein air painting, finding oils along with the use of a pochade box very handy for the purpose. Many of his smaller landscape paintings are painted directly from nature. His paintings of secluded spots along the Charles and Blackstone Rivers have won numerous awards at local art shows.

Tina Guarino is a Franklin resident, and is an art teacher in the Franklin school system. With over thirty years as an art educator, she is now creating personal art by focusing on painting.

Tina graduated with a Masters degree in Art Education from the College of New Rochelle, NY, and has a broad background in many art media including copper enameling, custom jewelry, stained glass and pottery. Her paintings have received numerous awards in the past few years for their diverse and expressive style.

Brenda Hutchinson has been painting part-time for many years. She started by using oils, but for the past several years has been concentrating on the medium of watercolor. She finds watercolor a very challenging medium, but loves the flow and transparency of the paint. Her art related education includes Mass. College of Art extension program, Dean College and Danforth Museum School in Framingham, as well as classes and workshops over the years with several New England artists, as well as nationally known artists, Tom Lynch, Bernard Gerstner Nita Engle and Patricia Weaver. Brenda is a member of the Franklin, Foxboro & Duxbury Art Associations, as well as the Plymouth Art Guild, and has exhibited in many shows throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Gail Eckberg teaches art to adults with the Franklin Public Schools Continuing Lifelong Learning program. She holds both Bachelors' and Masters' degrees and is an exhibiting member of several New England art societies.

An accomplished and award winning artist who is equally at home with oils, watercolors and pastels, Gail says that "whatever medium I am working with, that one is my favorite." Like Paul Peterson, she often paints outdoors, on location, seeking out different locations which "speak" to her, as to which medium to paint with.

This exhibition is part of a Woodshed Gallery program designed to help artists take control of their presentations and advance their careers.

The Woodshed Gallery was founded by professional artist Angelina Wood in 1968, and continues to be a family-run business.
