In the world of Paroxysm, World War II ended when a portal to Hell opened and half of humanity perished. From the ashes rose the Cortex, an authoritarian world government that now rules what remains of civilisation. The supernatural walk among humanity: some hide their true nature, others openly defy the government, and some join the very organisation hunting them.
A distinctive feature is the AI Champions: intelligent NPCs powered by large language models that behave like players and compete in events. They are designed to give players something to do even when the server is quiet.
Players can:
- Play as a vampire, werewolf, demonborn or one of many other supernatural archetypes.
- Join the Cortex as an enforcer of humanity's authoritarian government and hunt supernatural threats.
- Develop supernatural powers, unlock new abilities and take part in PvP.
- Form alliances, claim territory and influence the world through their actions.
- Build relationships, rivalries and stories in a persistent, roleplay-first world.
Paroxysm is in early alpha and under active development with frequent updates. The world is still forming, and both MUD veterans and newcomers to text RPGs are welcome.
