  • Altoona, PA (1888PressRelease) September 20, 2011 - Directed by Bernard Stamm, implemented by the Swiss shipyard Décision SA and supported by the Sandoz Family Foundation, the Rivages project was created to surmount the technical, scientific, sporting and human challenges involved in global navigation. Some are significant. The Europa Race and the Transat Jacques Vabres in 2011, then the Vendée Globe from November 2012, dubbed the Everest of the seas, await.

Taking on the high seas, battling against the elements, racing around the globe, Bernard Stamm has always been cut out for offshore adventures. Parmigiani - which has long been following his epic journeys - felt it was their duty to create a timepiece which would suit him and accompany him at sea. The Transforma Rivages automatic chronograph, a chameleon-like instrument, can transform itself depending on the situation, the time and the requirements. Firstly, the wrist watch: the Transforma Rivages transforms into a fob watch or an on-board instrument perfectly integrated into the cockpit of the Rivages monohull. The look of the chronograph dial takes its inspiration from the Rivages catamaran: the counters are made from carbon and their hands or the design of the stylised map of the world on the black dial are the same "Rivages blue" as the logo of the monohull.

    An evolution in three phases:
On the wrist, the Transforma Rivages is light and comfortable for ease of movement. The materials - titanium and carbon - were quickly selected during the study phase. The Transforma collection, with its classic round form and ergonomic curved lugs, could be adapted in many different ways for various uses. Like a jaw gripping and clamping the main body of the watch, the titanium "bonnet" is released by simply pressing the two side push-pieces positioned on the two lower lugs.

The main carbon fibre element - machined directly from the same material as the Rivages monohull - then clips together naturally in the support of the steel fob watch. Asymmetrical, its shape makes it easy to access the chronograph push-pieces and the crown, even when flipping back the dial. Fitted with a steel chain, the Transforma Rivages is transformed into a grand watchmaking classic.

Inside the monohull, every detail is finely tuned. Nothing should hinder navigation. In collaboration with the shipyard Décision SA, the case-housing of the Transforma Rivages has been carefully integrated into the cockpit. Fixed in place, the dial is unlocked to reveal the main body, made from carbon, housed inside. Once set up, the Transforma Rivages self-winding system starts automatically.

Entirely manufactured in the ateliers at the Parmigiani manufacture, the Transforma Rivages is adorned with a leather strap with a carbon appearance.
