  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2010 - The18th annual PIA Interior Plantscape Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet ceremony was held at the CalScape Expo 2010 on September 2nd, 2010 at the San Diego Sheraton Hotel & Marina. Parker received the following awards:

    • Award of Excellence, Green Roof Installation. At over 30 years old and leaking, the roof on this corporate building was past its prime. The global consumer goods company that housed offices beneath decided to "green-up" and install a new roof that includes a 9,200 square foot extensive green roof modular system. The company recognized the important environmental benefits of a green roof such as storm water management, reduction of the urban heat island effect, energy efficiency and extending the life of the roof membrane up to 2-3 times more than the expected life. The green roof was installed on the 3rd Floor Atrium area and the 4th floor Executive area. The final product blends in seamlessly with the beauty of the surrounding hills and landscape. Perhaps the most tangible benefit is the pastoral view of the lush green roof instead of the standard gray roofs of the past.

    • Award of Merit, Living Wall Installation. With a newly renovated space in a prime location of Manhattan, the client designed a wall to include a map of New York City in a highly visible location of his offices. To "keep it real", he engaged Parker Urban Greenscapes to design a living wall that replicated the topography of Central Park with actual plants, constructed from the aerial perspective of the park. Parker chose tall woody tropical foliage, including Balfour aralias and Parsley aralias to represent "trees" and Ficus pumila, to represent the "grassy meadows". In order to fill the 30' wall, over 1,000 plants were grown at Parker's greenhouse facilities for three months and inspected daily for growth and moisture content. By the installation date, the plant specimens were healthy, lush and very impressive. Careful planning was crucial in hanging the brackets, ensuring all panels were spaced evenly without gaps, giving the most authentic look of one of the most famous parks in the world.
