  • (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2012 - Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai recently received a 'Certificate of Appreciation'from the Government of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketingand the International Diabetes Federation for participating in the 'Check out for Diabetes' campaign.

One in 5 people in the UAE are diabetic and their number is expected to double in 15 years. The country ranks 2nd globally for diabetes prevalence, with the MENA region accounting for 26.6 million of the world's 171 million diabetics.

"Lifestyle changes and unhealthy diets are the major reasons why our children are diabetic and it is our responsibility as members of the world community to ensure that every child enjoys the right to a healthy life in a better society," observes Scott Butcher, General Manager of Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai.

This social consciousness was reflected in the hotel's participation in 'Check out for Diabetes' campaign.

"Social concern isn't something that's forced; it comes from within. The campaign was specifically designed for the Dubai hospitality industry to demonstrate its commitment to fight diabetes at the World Diabetes Congress held in Dubai last December," Scott points out.

"It costs about a dollar a day to save a child's life. We contributed AED1 for every guest room occupied in our hotel during the two-week campaign and also requested our guests to make a donation when checking out," he adds.

The funds were earmarked for IDF's 'Life for a Child' programme to provide diabetic children in developing countries with insulin and treatment.

The hotel also usedleaflets and posters to inform guests about diabetes and how they could contribute in fighting the condition.
