Panama wine writer and expert earns advanced qualification in California wines

  • (1888PressRelease) May 01, 2022 - Author Charlie Leary has qualified for the Level 3 certification from the California Wine Institute's Capstone program after passing an extensive final exam. He previously passed Levels 1 & 2.

    The first-of-its kind California wine certification and education program, Capstone California, launched during California Wine Month late last year. Created by the Wine Institute’s California Wine Export Program with a team of international wine professionals, Capstone California provides intensive educational content presented in a multi-lingual, multimedia platform available globally to industry professionals. Leary qualified for a scholarship to take the program.

    Leary writes about wine for a variety of publications including Sommelier Business, Future Drinks Expo, and the website of a major US wine retailer based on Sonoma County, California. He is based in Panama City. Leary also researches wine history and gives classes. His recent article, "The Mysterious Disappearance of Vin de Domme" was just published by Jane Anson's Inside Bordeaux website. Anson is an acclaimed expert on Bordeaux wines.

    In addition to this certification, Leary is a Certified Sherry Wine Expert and Argentina Wine Specialist. He has also earned the Cava Expert and Cava Educator certifications. Cava is the famous Spanish sparkling wine. He has studied wine production and sensory analysis through Washington State University.

Many California wineries, along with a team of California wine experts, Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, educators and authors and international wine leaders also contributed to Capstone California.
