  • Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2011 - This Wind Farm is located at Kazugumalai in the Tirunelveli / Thuthukudi Districts of Tamil Nadu. Orient Green Power Europe a subsidiary of Orient Green Power Company Limited also has synchronized 10.5 MW Wind Farm in Croatia recently. With the addition of this Wind Farms, OGPL has an operating capacity of 250 MW of Wind Energy apart from 50 MW of Biomass based Power making it one of major Renewable Energy Power producer in the country. In Tamil Nadu alone it operates 245 MW of Green Power making it one of the leading Renewable IPP in the State. OGPL's total operating capacity in India and overseas totals 300 MW comprising both Wind and Biomass.

    During the current financial year the company has added 80 MW till date and plans to add another 147 MW before this fiscal. Another 100 MW of Wind capacity is planned to be added by June'12 - before the beginning of next wind season - in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. Plans are on to add further capacities in Wind in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and possibly Maharashtra as well in 2012-13.

    The steady increase in capacity will see the company consolidate its position as the leading independent renewable energy-based power generation company in India. This is a significant contribution by the Company in ensuring a sustainable non-conventional energy source helping the power needs of the country as well as in providing employment opportunities in rural India, making it an inclusive player in the Industry. It also augments in climate change efforts of GoI with clean energy to supplement conventional sources of energy being added under the five year plans.
