  • (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2014 - Future development of energy logistics is dependent on the expansion of the oil, gas and petrochemical market, international trade and energy security. With the perspective "Best Practices for Optimized Asset and Materials Handling", the 3rd Logistics for Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industry Forum commenced yesterday on 4th March at the Park Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

    The forum saw keynote session delivered by Shashi Shekhar, Chairman of the Supply Chain & Logistics Group (SCLG). Shekhar's keynote reviewed the trends of logistics and supply chain in the region. Delegation also heard from experts from leading National Oil Companies on logistics management. Whilst Taher Saleem Saeed, Head Technical Purchasing at GASCO addressed on material handling and guidelines in designing material handling systems, Saad Sabra, Team Leader at the Logistics Center in ADCO spoke of mitigating current gaps and a road map to operational maturity. Attendees also heard from Amr Tawfik of Weatherford on evolving logistic process and the growth and challenges they present.

    The forum also saw sessions addressed by leading industry solution providers. Layland Barker of Titan Containers spoke on how to improve economics through smart container solutions. Covering on technology aspects and their benefits in energy logistics in both upstream and downstream were Ramesh Nair from IBS Group, and Janneke Lagerwaard from ORTEC respectively.     The first day of the event also saw discussions on securing seas on asset threats. Where a panel discussion debated on the logistic road blocks in MENA, Conference Chairman, Vinod Menon of Schlumberger Shared Services Organization spoke on how a Transport Management Center can support monitoring and tracking assets. The forum ended with a workshop on anti-piracy practices for oil tankers and transit routes conducted by Logistics Manager, Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed at ADMA-OPCO.

    The forum today is scheduled to hear from experts of leading oil and gas companies from the region. Addressing the dynamics of material handling will be Ali Egal of Borouge and expanding on the safety aspect of hazardous materials on the go will be Farooq ElEkri of Tatweer Petroleum. From a contract aspect, Saleh Hassoubah of Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company is going to speak on bid evaluations for construction and freight forwarding contracts. Chairman for day Muhammad Salim Jandula at Pakistan Petroleum Ltd will address taking procurement to the next level.

    Senior VP Supply Chain at Reliance Industries, Sukumar Narasimhan is also scheduled to speak on 'Inventory Management Decisions for Greater ROI'. Attendees will also participate on a panel to learn on setting up a logistics base, and a workshop conducted by Shekhar on 'Leveraging Technology for Empowered Supply Chain Meaning'. The forum is supported by leading industry trade associations CILT UAE, SCLG, Universal Freight Organisation and Conqueror Freight Network.
