NPSA Applauds Cattani Architects' Containerized Dorm Rooms
The National Portable Storage Association supports the architectural innovation at Cite a Docks and similar projects around the world.
- (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2010 - KANSAS CITY, MO - College students in Le Havre, France are experiencing a wave of the future with dorm rooms modified from portable storage containers.
Dubbed Cité a Docks, the modified shipping containers were designed by Cattani Architects. The portable storage containers-turned-dorms offer a single bathroom, a kitchen, and an ultra-modern interior look and feel.
"Portable storage containers continue to make their way into creative building designs," says John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the National Portable Storage Association (NPSA), a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. "We watched the birth of this trend and have seen it gain momentum. We are proud that the staple of our industry has become such an integral part of eco-friendly housing."
The NPSA has embraced interest from the architectural world. In fact, the association's 2010 Conference and Trade Show, which is being held in Orlando at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel Nov. 7-9, will feature world-famous architect Adam Kalkin. Kalkin is best-known for his work in container housing and will speak about portable storage architecture during one of the sessions.
"At the NPSA, we remain on the cutting edge of alternative uses for portable storage containers," said Joel Rathbone, Operations Manager for the NPSA. "It's amazing how architects like Cattani Architects and Adam Kalkin continue to find ways to make transform these containers into works of living art."
