  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) August 06, 2021 - Wendi L. Dumbroff, MA, LPC, was a recent guest on “Leading Edge Love” radio where she was interviewed by Host Sumati Sparks. In this episode, Dumbroff discussed various aspects of sexual shame and sexual orientation.

On the topic of sexual orientation, Dumbroff suggested listening closely to what you feel on the inside. “Your identity is for you to decide. It is not for someone else.” She continued, “We spend so much of our time trying to de-shame people and what they like. No one can help what they like. And as long as it's between consenting adults, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what turns a person on.”

She also explained how past histories of sexual abuse impacts people as a ‘sexual being’ in the present. “People who were sexually abused may hold a lot of shame and may feel there is something wrong with them. She continued, “People may come away feeling like it was their fault, that they did something to make other person do something to them.”

Dumbroff offered a piece of advice to those impacted by sexual abuse. “If there is one thing a person needs to know, it is that you cannot help how your body reacts, it doesn’t mean you asked for it, wanted it, or welcomed it. It wasn’t your fault.”
