North Carolina Business Leaders Outline Educational Issues Impacting Women-Owned Businesses

Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2014 - Erin Cohen, President of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater Raleigh, announced that NAWBO will host a public policy panel led by North Carolina business leaders entitled "Your Business, Your Vote: Why Education Matters" on Wednesday, October 22nd. This lecture is open to both members and guests and will be held at Embassy Suites on Harrison Oaks Drive in Cary from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Cost is $35 for members and Community Partners, $45 for guests, and $50 at the door.

What are the education issues that will impact women owned businesses? How will our votes affect those issues in the upcoming election? Questions such as these will be the topics of discussion in the upcoming panel discussion "Your Business, Your Vote: Why Education Matters". Panelists will focus on the topic of education as it relates to women owned small businesses.

Panel members include:

Brenda Berg: President and CEO of Business for Educational Success and Transformation in North Carolina. BEST NC has a rapidly growing membership of more than 60 politically and geographically diverse North Carolina business leaders committed to improving the state's public education system at all levels.

Ann McColl - General Counsel, North Carolina Association of Educators Center. Ann previously served as a legislative liaison for The NC State Board of Education and former legal counsel to the NC Association of School Administrators. She has focused her legal career on education and government law and leadership. She has served as an associate professor at UNC-Charlotte, College of Education, Department of Educational Leadership; at the School of Government, UNC-Chapel Hill; and as legal counsel and director of policy at the NC School Boards Association.

Dr. Yevonne Brannon (Panel Moderator)-Dr. Brannon is the Education Director of NC State's Center for Urban Affairs and Community Services. Outside of the office, she's been working to improve public education in Wake County for 40 years. Today, she is one of the leaders of Public Schools First NC, a statewide organization that advocates for high-quality public schools.
