  • (1888PressRelease) February 23, 2012 - LOS ANGELES, California - Gina Elise, the Veterans' and Troops' favorite pin-up girl and Founder of the award-winning nonprofit organization, "Pin-Ups For Vets", wants to buy rehabilitation equipment for VA Hospitals, and she's finding some pretty sweet ways to get people to pay attention to her cause. The Pin-Ups For Vets organization introduces its delectable vintage style "You Take The Cake" T-shirt, inspired by the pin-up girl drawings of the 1940's.

Gina Elise, the popular pin-up model in the six annual Pin-Ups For Vets fundraiser calendars loves the vintage images from the decade of WWII, when her own grandfather proudly served in the U.S. Army. "I have always loved the music, the dances, the nose art, the glamorous pin-up girl paintings, the photographic images, and the patriotism of that decade," says Elise, who has posed as a 1940's-style calendar girl since 2007, when her first fundraiser calendar was released to the public.

"It only made sense for our organization to reach back to those special years to get inspiration for our first woman's T-shirt that we are selling to help raise funds to improve Veterans' health care in VA Hospitals across the U.S," explains Elise. The American-made black cotton T-shirt with its striking retro-color combination of pinks and browns features Gina Elise's pin-up image coyly tasting a just-frosted cake, with the words, "You Take The Cake" .

This sweet-as-sugar nostalgic T-shirt borrows an old expression that means a person is especially good or outstanding at what they do . It is widely supposed that the phrase, "You Take The Cake" originated with cake-walk strutting competitions, that were commonplace in the southern USA in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In those dance contests, couples would be judged on their style in the 'cake-walk'. The winners were said to have 'taken the cake', which was often the prize.

"This sweet T-shirt, with its original vintage design, is sure to turn heads. It makes a great birthday or appreciation gift for that special lady in your life or it can let your best gal pal know how very special she is. The proceeds from the sales of these T-shirts go to support our hospitalized Veterans, and there is nothing sweeter than that !" adds Elise who is currently on a 50-state VA Hospital tour to thank U.S. Veterans.
