  • (1888PressRelease) September 10, 2013 - Since content and information are readily available everywhere, there is a need to be different and exclusive in the presentation to stand out. Design can make a big difference to maintain loyal consumers and attract new readers. The conference will bring the lead design directors and creative directors from the region to present diverse trends and innovations in different platforms such as web and tablet.

Arem Duplessis, Design director from New York Times Magazine, is one of the speakers to the conference. He has led a department that was named Design Team of The Year by The Art Directors Club (ADC) for three consecutive years (2008-2011). Under his tenure the magazine has received numerous Gold and Silver medals from The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), The Type Directors Club (TDC), The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), American Photography and American Illustration.

Duplessis is currently an Associate Professor in Pratt Institute's Graduate Communications Design Department. He teaches an annual Masters Design Workshop at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He used to teach at The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City.

It is a unique opportunity to have a dialogue with him and meet professionals from the industry. Award-winning design professionals will share their experiences at the conference and highlight the best practices in design from around the world. Confirmed speakers include Shadi Al Hasan, Flaghip Projects Managing Director; Miguel Gomez, Gulf News Design Director; Laura Koot, The National Art Director and Adonis Durado, Times of Oman Art Director.

"The Society for News Design is doing its best work when it is providing education and training for the international visual journalism community. It's the best part and most rewarding part of our mission. I'm proud for SND to be involved in this event!," says Rob Schneider, Society for News Design President.

Dr Mario Garcia has collaborated with more than 573 publications over the past 40 years. He has also redesigned large publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Die Zeit, Malayala Manorama and most recent The Citizen in South Africa. He says: "Perhaps the area of the world where some of the most exciting things are happening in newspaper design at the moment is the Middle East. "These are dramatically changing times for visual storytellers. We need more conferences like this to exchange ideas, tips, and discuss where design moves in the digital era," says the newspaper designer guru.

"Life is getting complicated every day, as a result communication is becoming cluttered and less communicating! The way out is by simplifying our language by focusing on meanings; visualizing words can be the ultimate means of simplification, it's a tough task though! That's why only creative brains with artistic souls can do it," says Shadi Al Hasan, Flaship Projects Managing Director. He is responsible for many award winner interactive projects across the region in both English and Arabic languages.

This is a great opportunity to meet the experts and learn the best procedures in design and discover what publications are doing in innovation and creativity in the media industry.
