  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2014 - Myers Bigel Sibley & Sajovec, P.A. (Myers Bigel), the largest independent patent law firm in North Carolina, recently completed a corporate rebranding effort to highlight and share its expertise in producing quality patents that stand up to scrutiny.

The firm's tagline "When Innovation Demands Expertise" adorns a new logo and website containing details on the Myers Bigel talented legal team and practice areas, as well as fresh, original blog postings on legal topics such as Post Grant Trial Proceedings and Inter Partes Review.

"Our client portfolio continues to grow in large part from referrals from RTP-based industry professionals and other attorneys who recognize our propensity for efficiently producing and defending quality high-tech patents that stand up to scrutiny," said attorney Lynne Borchers, who led the rebranding effort, adding, "We needed a brand to reflect that."

In 2013, Myers Bigel engaged the services of The Marketing Machine, a Raleigh-based creative services firm, to address an outdated logo and website, two central elements of the firm's brand. Working through the discovery process, The Marketing Machine interviewed Myers Bigel attorneys and staff to learn about the firm's personality, market, audience, competition and service offerings. They then produced a creative brief to ensure everyone was on the same page, and launched in-depth, detailed creative development efforts for a new logo, tagline and website design.

"We engage clients in a thought exercise with a goal of translating their brand's who, what and how into visual imagery. During this unique process we explore the core aspects of their brand to ensure a new logo makes a statement, resonates with an audience and has longevity," said Paul Spinak, president of The Marketing Machine.

"Clients find this approach helps them uncover and/or re-prioritize key attributes that lead to fresh creative ideas and a fundamental understanding of the brand that ultimately drives business," he added.

The new Myers Bigel logo - featuring the tagline "When Innovation Demands Expertise" - includes a clean, four-sided, 3D icon with meaning and movement.

"We needed something unique that wouldn't be too literal, but would be a little techie in nature," Borchers explained. "The result is something that doesn't have one single meaning, but reflects what the viewer sees. You can get so many meanings from it -- some people see a circuit board, while others see gears, a stylized chemical structure, or four corners of knowledge."

"It's resonated very well with our clients as well as our staff," she added.

The clean, professional look of the logo is reflected in the new Myers Bigel website design (www.myersbigel.com) which includes information on the experience and skills of the firm's legal team; details on the firm's practice groups in biotechnology, chemistry, electronics and computer, litigation, mechanical, and trademark; a library of articles, documents, and presentations created by members of the Myers Bigel regarding various aspects of patent law; and a new blog published by the firm's litigation team.

"We decided to focus initially on Post Grant Trial Proceedings and Inter Partes Review for our blog due in part to being one of a handful of law firms in the country equipped to effectively provide these types of services," Borchers said.

As no database of information or resources existed on these topics, Myers Bigel chose to move forward with providing a public-facing knowledgebase, based in large part on its experience supporting clients looking for efficiency in dealing with the growing problem of non-practicing entities.

The investment in a new brand, website, and blog is part of ongoing outreach efforts on behalf of Myers Bigel to share expertise while furthering best practices in patent law. Members of the firm's talented legal team are continually recognized by leading industry organizations; produce op-eds and provide thought leadership for articles published in respected national media outlets; and regularly participate in regional and national symposia, seminars, and continuing education events
