Research into glassware’s ability to control aromas conducted by Arsilica Inc (owner of the NEAT glass), has revealed that the long-trusted tulip glass design originating from the century old copita actually hinders aroma detection because it concentrates ethanol which is anesthetic to human olfactory sensors. The technical report published in November 2018 distinctly reveals that a scientific, factual approach to spirits glass design discovered a method to divert nose-numbing ethanol and deliver pure character aromas for evaluation and enjoyment.

In a statement to the press, Christine R Crnek, CEO, stated, “We have been conducting research in various aspects of glass design since 2002, and after suitable field testing of our glass, decided it would be in the best interests of spirits drinkers to dispel the long-held myths that surround spirits tasting and expose serious aficionados to the benefits of science over functionless, iconic traditional glassware based on style alone. Most spirits are 40% ABV and there is simply no place for the ethanol to go except up your nose in tall, narrow, traditional tulip glasses designed for 20% ABV. Crnek went on to add, “Perhaps even more stunning than the engineering process, we discovered a major source of unconscious gender bias caused by traditional glassware which is particularly unfriendly to higher female olfactory sensitivity. Perhaps that is why so few women belong to whisky clubs or prefer to drink spirits straight. This factor alone points to the need for the industry to rethink positions which affect female participation and gender neutrality to expand their markets.”

Arsilica, Inc., is a Nevada C Corporation in Las Vegas and manufacturer of the Naturally Engineered Aroma Technology (NEAT) glass. NEAT glass has been the official nosing, judging glass of most major spirit competitions since introduction in 2012. The company is researching many other aspects of nosing and tasting alcohol beverages. For more information about the NEAT glass for all spirits, visit https://www.theneatglass.com/.
