  • (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2011 - A new report from IMARC Group entitled "Global Healthcare Cold Chain Logistics Market Report & Forecast (2011-2016)" finds that in the case of temperature sensitive healthcare products, cost is not always the most important factor in logistic decisions. Most biological products have well defined logistic needs with their ideal storage and transportation temperatures mostly ranging between 2°C - 8°C. Any failures in maintaining these temperatures can lead to a significant loss in the products efficacy and can even make it harmful for the patient.

Findings from the report suggest that while pharmaceutical manufacturers spend 30% and 16% of their sales in marketing and R&D respectively, only 3% of their total sales are spent on logistics. The report also found that currently around 5% of the air cargo volume consists of perishable goods with healthcare products representing less than 5% of this volume. When it came to value, however, the majority of perishable freight value was attributed by pharmaceuticals and biotech products. The report has found that healthcare manufacturers today are becoming more and more receptive to the notion that rather than risking the wastage of such high value products, it is more preferable to pay the extra cash to strengthen their distribution systems.

IMARC's new report entitled "Global Healthcare Cold Chain Logistics Market Report & Forecast (2011-2016)" provides an analytical and statistical insight into the logistic opportunities in the global healthcare market. The study that has been undertaken using both desk based as well as qualitative primary market research has analyzed three aspects of the global healthcare cold chain logistics market.

The first aspect involves the quantification of the global market for temperature sensitive healthcare products into three major classes and evaluation of the current and future opportunities in each of these classes. The second aspect involves an in-depth understanding on the global healthcare cold chain distribution process and logistic requirements for various temperature sensitive healthcare products. The third aspect involves the quantification of the global healthcare cold chain logistic services market and a comprehensive evaluation of its various segments.
