  • (1888PressRelease) November 03, 2010 - ORLANDO, Fla. - Demron, the world's first and only fabric that provides multi-hazard protection against all nuclear, biological, chemical, bomb and ballistic threats, infrared radiation and heat, will be discussed at the 3rd Annual CBRNe Convergence Conference, today announced Ronald F. DeMeo, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Radiation Shield Technologies (RST). Dr. DeMeo's presentation, titled "Nuclear threats, physiological effects, and countermeasures," takes place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Thursday, November 4, in Ballroom C at the Rosen Plaza Hotel located at 9700 International Drive, Orlando, FL, 32819.

Dr. DeMeo is the surgeon who invented Demron, the world's only fabric of its kind scientifically proven to provide total radiation protection and designed to maximize ease of use and durability. Demron, which includes the Demron-W line of warfare garments, is an advanced radiopaque, nano-polymeric compound fused between layers of fabric. The entire Demron-W product line will be on display Wednesday, Nov. 3, and Thursday, Nov. 4, in Conference Room A at Booth No. 300.

RST is a sponsor of the conference, which will be comprised of a series of discussions focused on how recent terror attacks helped improve defense capability for first responders and the latest developments in personal-protective technology. Demron technologies are used globally by members of the military, first responders, HAZMAT teams, police and fire-rescue personnel and health care professionals, among others. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) recently selected it to help improve firefighter safety.

"Radiation Shield Technologies developed Demron because we recognized a need for lightweight, durable, flexible personal-protection gear that provides total multi-hazard protection and enables users to work comfortably with the peace of mind of knowing they're well-protected," Dr. DeMeo said. "Demron eliminates the guesswork by enabling users to deploy one technology to combat all types of threats, including traditional ballistics and bombs, as well as IED's, RDD's, RED's and the ever-increasing nuclear and radiological threats."

    Demron-W products on display include:

Demron Full-Body Suit, engineered to provide universal protection against ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Pending NFPA certification, the suit is lightweight, flexible and cool and protects against heat stress.

Demron-W High Energy Nuclear/Ballistic IED RDD RED Shield provides unsurpassed fragmentation protection and can be used as a suppression blanket for IED's, RDD's, and RED's.

Demron Anti-Ballistic IIIA, Anti-Nuclear, Self-Cooling Vest, made with cool stealth technology making it the only self-cooling vest on the market today. It provides IIIA protection and is also the only vest to reduce gamma radiation.

Demron Anti-Radiation Torso Vest, constructed with two layers of the Demron fabric, providing increased shielding to vital organs. The vest has been tested by the Department of Energy and confirmed effective in shielding against various forms of ionizing radiation to the torso.

Demron Crew Protection Blanket provides protection against X-ray and low energy gamma emissions, as well as high- and low-energy beta and alpha particles. It may be used to safely transport radiation victims while minimizing the risk of contaminating rescue personnel and others.

RST has received ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003 certifications for its design and manufacturing of Demron, its core technology, and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0108.01 Certification for its Demron High Energy Nuclear/Ballistic IED RDD Shield. Demron has 13 U.S. and international patents and was recently granted an Indian patent (No. 242574). The fabric has National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Class 2 Certification for the 1994-2007 Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents. Demron has been proven to block gamma rays, X-rays and nuclear emissions by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, part of the National Nuclear Security Administration within the U.S. Department of Energy, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Demron is used worldwide by NATO, NASA, the National Guard, US Navy, UAE and the governments of South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and Australia, among others.
