  • Lexington, KY (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2013 - A bored demon sits at a filthy bar in New Jersey getting drunk out of his mind. It might sound like the setup for a questionable Saturday Night Live sketch, but for Christian author Brad Francis, it was the perfect inspiration for his new novel.

The Savvy Demon's Guide to Godly Living, which releases for Kindle and in paperback through Amazon.com on September 16, tells the story of the demon who inadvertently starts a revival by passing along trade secrets to the pastor he's supposed to tempt, harass and distract.

"The idea is that the demon is bored because the church he's assigned to is so wrapped up in their religious traditions that they never impact their world at all," says Francis. "They attend church services regularly but never step out into their community to do any actual good."

Even before its release, the book has attracted some controversy, both for the satirical portrayal of a church too mired in religion to do much good, but also for the author's decision to include some mature content in the description of Christians living ungodly lives. Still, Francis says that initial reviews have been positive.

One such review comes from Annie Douglass Lima, the author of the Christian fantasy novels Prince of Alasia and In the Enemy's Service, who marveled at the effect the book had on her. "Reading The Savvy Demon's Guide to Godly Living was a moving experience that impacted me far beyond what I had expected," she wrote in a review on her website. "I think it would be almost impossible for anyone who is (or wants to be) serious about their faith to not be changed after reading it."

Some of these early reviews echo the praise that Francis has received for his first published work, the best-selling short story The Book of the Harvest, which reviewers have called "heart-changing," "a wake-up call" and "an amazing read." Francis is also the author of the Christian fantasy adventure Emaline's Gift, which continues the theme, with reviewers calling it "a miracle" and an "answer to prayer."

"The truth is that receiving positive reviews is very humbling," Francis says. "The reason I write is to glorify God, and He has graciously used each of my published books for His glory, so I'm very content."

Although The Savvy Demon's Guide to Godly Living will be exclusive to Kindle e-readers when it releases on September 16, there are plans to widen the release to include other digital platforms by the end of the year.

Francis lives in Radcliff, Kentucky, with his wife, Shannon, and two daughters. More information can be found at his website: http://Christfictionandvideogames.blogspot.com.
