  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2010 - Neptune Technology, a provider of technology consulting services and products, announced today that it has partnered with SmartPick Backup to resell the SmartFiler series of Backup Appliances. The SmartFiler Backup Appliances offer businesses a unique solution for backing up large volumes of data onsite and offsite without the need for a 3rd party offsite data backup provider.

The SmartFiler series of products come with storage capacity ranging from 500 GB to 8 TB including RAID 5 redundancy and hot-swap spare drives on selected models. Customers buy a pair of these appliances, one for use onsite and the other for use at a remote offsite location of their choice. The two SmartFilers are configured and paired together initially on their LAN. An initial full backup is performed on both the onsite and offsite appliances. After the initial full backup, the offsite SmartFiler is re-located and paired again with the onsite, this time using its WAN IP address. The onsite and offsite SmartFilers continue to communicate with each other without any interruption, and perform incremental backups based on a schedule.

"The solution is simple and practical. It allows customers to backup terabytes of data effectively, while keeping a copy onsite and another copy offsite. In the event of a disaster, data can be restored from either the onsite or the offsite SmartFiler. For situations where large volumes of data need to be restored quickly, you simply bring the offsite appliance from its remote location to your office, connect it to your LAN and restore the data in hours instead of days", says Alan Shore, Director of Marketing at Neptune.

In addition to nightly and weekly backups, the SmartFiler Backup Appliances can also be configured to take hourly snapshots of selected data. This enables instant recovery of data from any snapshot during the day, instead of using the previous night's backup. This point-in-time data recovery is a powerful feature that was available only for big enterprises, until the SmartFiler Backup Appliance was introduced. A browser based management interface is used to interact with these appliances for tasks such as, selecting specific shared folders to be backed up, setting backup schedules, SSH port configurations, and enabling tech-support. The interface also provides a "dashboard view" of both the onsite and offsite SmartFilers.

"This is the most cost effective data backup solution in the market today and allows companies to backup data from Windows, Linux/Unix, and Mac O/S based computers", says Swami Nathan, President of SmartPick Backup.
