  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) December 09, 2014 - On December 15, Arcadia Publishing will release its latest title, The Burlington Railroad: Alliance Division, in the Images of Rail series. The authors - Richard Kistler, Michael Bartles, and James Reisdorff - use vintage images to take readers on a nostalgic journey though the pioneer-era trains and railroads of the Alliance Division.

The Burlington Railroad established Alliance in 1888 while pushing tracks into the vast regions of Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. In 1902, the importance of Alliance was reaffirmed when it became the headquarters of the railroad's Alliance Division.

The Burlington Railroad was instrumental in the development of agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, manufacturing, mining, and other ventures across the railroad's route. The Burlington Railroad assisted many with the transportation of goods long before passenger transportation was available. Once passenger service was available, the Alliance Division accommodated travelers as they visited the wonders of the west like Yellow Stone National Park and Little Bighorn Battlefield.

The Burlington Railroad: Alliance Division displays over 200 vintage images to show the achievements and hardships of the Burlington Railroad.

Highlights of The Burlington Railroad: The Alliance Division include:
    • An image of a westbound passenger train stopped at the new Alliance depot in 1909.
    • An image of Burlington's efficient rail yard at Deadwood.
    • Pictures of the Alliance BN diesel shop under construction.
