  • (1888PressRelease) May 06, 2016 - Many have been arrested and imprisoned for criticising the regime, including political prisoner Abolqasem Fouladvand, who released a statement from prison on April 30th. The statement calls for the liberation of workers, teachers, pensioners, and students from the mullah's perpetuated principle of Veleyat-e Faqih (the religious rule), stating it is put in place to exploit those who cannot defend themselves. Faloudvand says the "most fundamental goal of this regime is to loot and plunder the interests of the country and create terror and oppression, and torture and execution in the domestic arena."

Unrest within the Iranian workers is justified, as even the regime's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade has acknowledged that 7000 of Iran's industrial units are inoperative, and 19 percent of small-scale industries, 18 percent of medium-size industries, and 11 percent of large-scale industrial units are completely shut down, leaving many Iranian industrial workers out of a job, meaning a drastic drop in job security. Those who do have work are often employed through temporary contracts and have no viable way of knowing whether or not they will keep their job, or whether they will be paid their intended wage.

The NCRI casts the blame on the mullah's regime and the Revolutionary Guards, who are monopolising the country's industries, and leaving no say for the workers' representation in the regime. Gholamreza Abbasi, president of Supreme Centre of Trade Associations said, "95 percent of workers have no employment contract document", meaning worker's rights and representation is made even more difficult.

While the call is made to fight against the oppressive regime, the NCRI's message, as well Faloudvand's and the president Maryam Rajavi's, is to promote solidarity within the workers and unity to fight and overthrow a regime that exploits the country's population under the pretext of religious rule.
