  • (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2016 - ASSOCHAM India, the premier Association of Chambers of Commerce in India, organised a one day "National Workshop of Drafting of Commercial Agreements" for the benefit of Business houses and lawyers on 5th Saturday 2016 in New Delhi. In the said Workshop Mr S Ravi Shankar, an international Arbitration lawyer and Senior Partner of Law Senate law firm, delivered the key note address. In the key note Address he covered various issues with regard to the "Enforcement of Contracts in India & Effectiveness of the Justice delivery system in India". He also articulated the requirements of lawyers equipping themselves with the international arbitrations and other Dispute resolution mechanisms in view of the increasing international contracts. He also explained the need for a complete revamping of the justice delivery system to bring down the pendency of 3,00,00,000 cases pending before 30,000 Judges.

    The Guest of Honour Mr M L Metha delivered a detailed address explaining the developments in the contract law of India starting from the pre independence days. He also explained the relevance of various Supreme Court Judgments. After that the Chief Guest Shri Suresh Chandra, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India delivered an address, explaining various measures taken by the Government to improve the implementation of contracts and to expedite the disposal of the cases. Shri. D S Rawath Secretary General delivered vote of thanks.

    During the Technical Sessions S Ravi Shankar made a presentation on Drafting of International & Domestic contracts with practical examples and Judgments of the Supreme Court of India. He also dealt with the law relating to Damages, Liquidated damages, Drafting of International & Domestic Arbitration agreements, enforcement of Foreign awards, conducting arbitrations in countries like UK, USA, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan etc., It is important to note that Law Senate was the knowledge partner of the event and released a back ground paper.
