  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) September 19, 2015 - Family Promise of Greater Denver, an affiliate of Family Promise, is proud to be part of a national week focused on helping homeless families. The week of Oct. 18 through 25 has been designated Family Promise Week, creating awareness about issues surrounding homelessness and celebrating volunteers in our community.

Family Promise is comprised of 192 affiliates that partner with local congregations to provide shelter, meals, facilities for case management, and thousands of volunteer opportunities. In 2014, Family Promise of Greater Denver served 202 individuals, and more than half were children. Local volunteers also supported the program through 32,000 volunteer hours.

Nationally, Family Promise provided shelter to more than 50,000 last year, and children made up 60%.

"There is an urgent need to address family homelessness," said Jolynn Snyder, executive director at Family Promise of Greater Denver. "Across the United States, families comprise nearly 40% of the homeless population. They are the fastest growing of any segment of homelessness, and Family Promise Week helps to generate awareness surrounding trends, issues and resources to support these families."
