  • (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2011 - MORRISVILLE, N.C. - The National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBSŪ) has announced the approval of their first international affiliated chapter, NAPBSŪ Asia-Pacific (APAC). The chapter is currently accepting regular, associate and affiliate membership in this region.

"NAPBS continues to move forward with initiatives and strategic goals that bring worldwide awareness of the background screening industry, provide education to both providers and end users of screening services, and assist in setting ethical and legal practices for the industry," said Theresa Preg, NAPBS chairman of the board. "The NAPBS APAC chapter brings the association another step closer to achieving the goals envisioned."

Membership in the APAC chapter offers companies and individuals the opportunity to have a voice in the industry as well as to take an active role in directing the future of the association through committee participation. Membership also provides access to education, resources, legislative monitoring, networking opportunities and member-only publications.

"We are excited to become the first international chapter of NAPBS and are anxious to get busy recruiting additional employment background screening firms in the region," said Wayne Tollemache, Executive VP - Asia Pacific Region of First Advantage Corporation and NAPBS APAC steering committee chair. "Our hope is to promote the need for background screening and establish acceptable practices that will benefit screening firms and their clients." Tollemache added that the formation of the chapter would not have been possible without the hard work of the steering committee and all APAC members.

In addition to Tollemache, the steering committee included Nick Wright, Director of IDS Group and Nobby Nazareth, Chairman and Managing Director of Evaluation India Private Limited.

The idea for global expansion came to fruition in October, 2007 when NAPBS formed the International Committee to explore the feasibility of establishing an international association to develop industry guidelines and standards and promote the overall growth of the background screening industry for a worldwide network of employment background screening firms.

International Committee Co-Chairs Robert Capwell, Chief Knowledge Officer of Employment Background Investigations Inc. (EBI) and Barry Nixon, COO of PreemploymentDirectory.com, led the initiative to forge relationships with employment background screening, investigation and vetting firms around the world. As a result of the committee's efforts, NAPBS has added 70 international member companies representing countries from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe and South America.
