Nashville Religion Communicators Council Holds Special Meeting to Acknowledge DeRose Hinkhouse Awardees
The Nashville Chapter of the Religion Communicators Council is taking the time to acknowledge winners of the 2012 DeRose Hinkhouse awards.
- (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2012 - The Nashville Chapter of the Religion Communicators Council is taking the time to acknowledge winners of the 2012 DeRose Hinkhouse awards.
In today's world where we hear more religious intolerance and bigotry than positive religious messages, the Religion Communicators Council (RCC) has a daunting task: help religious people communicate about their faith in a way that truly represents it.
"That is why the DeRose Hinkhouse awards have such an important role," says Rev. Brian Fesler, President of the Nashville RCC chapter and pastor of the Nashville Church of Scientology. "These awards acknowledge and encourage those who are putting out the good, positive messages into the world. They're telling the stories that really need to be told, [stories of] the people who are really making a difference."
According to the RCC website, "The DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards are given annually to active members of the Religion Communicators Council (RCC) who demonstrate excellence in religious communications and public relations."
"These awards showcase the best work of religion communicators and inspire others to do more. They uplift and shine the light on what is true and great about religion," Fesler continued.
This year's awards ceremony featured several works from Nashville-area members, and the Nashville chapter will be meeting in June to acknowledge local winners. Among local winners were Beth Richardson of the Upper Room, a section of the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church, for her work on "Alive Now" magazine; and Dywuan Brown and Valerie King of Mount Zion Baptist Church, receiving certificates of merit for their work "Trumpet Magazine."
The Religion Communicators Council (RCC), founded in 1929, is an interfaith association of religion communicators at work in print and electronic communication, marketing and in public relations. The RCC provides opportunities for religion communicators to learn from each other. Together, RCC members promote excellence in the communication of religious faith and values in the public arena and encourage understanding among religious and faith groups.
