  • Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2013 - For its 2013 Community Action Project, NAIOP New Jersey members, colleagues and family members volunteered at the Community Food Bank (CFB) of New Jersey in Hillside on July 19. Volunteers brought food and cash donations, then spent the day sorting incoming donations, repacking food and household items. This marks the fourth straight year the chapter has worked with the CFB, and the volunteer turnout has grown to more than 80 participants.

"Members brought cases and bags of non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations totaling more than $2,200," said Michael McGuinness, CEO of the commercial real estate development association. "That $2,200 equals $22,000 in food buying power for the food bank."

CFB, a designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization, supplies food to 1,500 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after-school programs and senior centers across New Jersey. Of those receiving assistance, 45 percent are children and 10 percent are elderly.

"Volunteering at the New Jersey Community Food Bank is an experience that impacts you to the core when you see how any small act of kindness changes the lives of those less fortunate," said Janet Proscia of Cronheim Mortgage, who co-chairs the chapter's Community Action Committee with Jonathan Prince of Porzio, Bromberg and Newman and Dani El-Haj of Two River Community Bank. "When people in our industry are so richly blessed, it takes so little for us to give something that can truly touch the lives of others."

The 2013 Food Drive is NAIOP New Jersey's latest effort in a long tradition of community service, with the ultimate goal of helping to make the state's communities better places in which to live and work.
