  • (1888PressRelease) May 24, 2012 - The lifeblood of every vehicle is the fuel it runs on, which makes fuel costs a dominant issue for the fleet industry. With so many factors affecting pricing -- ranging from the common laws of supply and demand to the complex workings of the geo-political - fleet managers are constantly seeking guidance on this intricate, unavoidable topic. NAFA Fleet Management Association examines the problem and offers solutions in "Getting Control of Fuel Costs" on Wednesday, May 30 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), part of the Association's 2012 Webinar Series.

NAFA webinars are available for free for NAFA Members as an exclusive benefit of membership. Registration for non-members is $25.00. The May 30th webinar features Jeffrey A. Miller, PhD., CEO of Gas-Lock Advisors, LLC., in an hour-long discussion providing background on energy price trends and their underlying causes. Essentially, this webinar takes a problem facing all fleet managers and gets to the heart of the issue in simple terms.

As Dr. Miller will illustrate throughout the webinar, there is a difference between oil prices and refined products. Prices do not always vary in tandem and there are important regional variations. Using a pragmatic, decision-oriented approach, while still providing value for those who just want background, the presentation will detail basic trends, identify additional risk factors that can influence the pricing of fuels both up and down, and focus on aspects that may be missed or overlooked. The session will then review a few popular solutions including hedging and other fixed price alternatives. Using examples of past events and charts showing effects, Dr. Miller seeks to provide some criteria for determining how to decide whether to act as well as how to find an effective solution.

Gas-Lock Advisors, LLC. sponsors the webinar, which will provide solutions for businesses and government agencies seeking more predictability in their fuel budget through research on energy prices and trends. A former college professor at the University of Wisconsin (Political Science and Public Policy), Dr. Miller was also a consultant to local government including the City of Milwaukee. Since 1987 he has used his quantitative and modeling skills in financial markets, trading options and futures, and providing consulting services to trading clients at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and the Chicago Board of Trade.

No single solution is right for every business. While Gas-Lock Advisors provides services related to fuel protection, this webinar does not focus on their specific product or on any specific solution. It is intended as an educational opportunity.

Fleet professionals may register for the webinar online at http://www.nafa.org/onlineforms/WEB/?ID=4286 until Tuesday, May 29. A list of upcoming webinars will be announced in the near future.
