  • (1888PressRelease) December 04, 2010 - The sky's the limit for two remarkable young mothers who have set up a thriving international translation company. With three children under the age of five between them, Rachel Bryan and Sharon Stephens have proven that it is possible to be successful as a mum and a businesswoman at the same time.

Through passion and determination, Rachel and Sharon have overcome the barriers facing all working mothers and established themselves as leading businesswomen on an international level. Their company, Veritas Language Solutions Ltd, has seen extensive growth in the 9 months since its conception and it now employs over 1000 translators worldwide, with Satellite offices in Spain and Russia.

Both Rachel and Sharon have overcome enormous odds to get to where they are today. After falling pregnant at the age of 19, Rachel was determined to make a success of her life and completed her A-levels in a single year whilst pregnant. When her son was only a year old she re-located from Cardiff to Swansea to begin a degree in Translation. Moving to a new city on her own with a small baby was a massive step; it was the first time she had lived alone and there was a lot to learn. "During the first six months at uni I almost gave up several times. But eventually I learnt how to balance being a parent, running a home and studying full-time. I am not the sort of person to slack off, and so full-time for me means about an 80 hour week". Rachel completed her degree and was one of only four people in her year to graduate with 1st Class Honours.

Sharon has faced similarly difficult obstacles. She studied Translation at Swansea University alongside Rachel, and also started her degree with a one year old child to look after. In her second year of university she fell pregnant and suffered from an unknown virus that left her unable to walk or eat, as well as pre-eclampsia during labour - a life threatening illness. Two weeks after giving birth she had to catch up on her assignments and 4 months later sat her exams, all whilst having a 3 year old and a newborn baby to look after. Her hard work paid off and she too graduated with 1st class honours.

Rachel and Sharon knew that through hard work they could achieve their ambitions and so immediately after graduating set to work on setting up the company they had always dreamt of running. The work they put into their degrees has been invaluable as it has helped them identify the areas in which other translation companies fall short, leading their business to success. Sharon says "Veritas is going from strength to strength daily and we quite simply can't believe it. Many other translation agencies are run by business and marketing entrepreneurs and so our customers are enjoying working with a translation company that is run by translators. We can relate to their requirements and produce exactly what they want as we know the industry and respect the job that they do." It is this commitment to quality that has really made Veritas stand out as a company.

Rachel and Sharon recognize that the success of their company is down to their own hard work and determination, and they are keen to pass on this knowledge to young females in their community. They have given talks at comprehensive schools in their area and at Swansea University, discussing the ways in which they overcame the obstacles that face all women in the workplace and promoting female-owned businesses. They believe that giving young females access to business knowledge whilst they are still at school will increase their opportunities in later life. They also believe that making both young females and males aware of the male-female discrepancies in the workplace will allow them to lead the way in overcoming these imbalances in the future.
