    About the Author: Steven Porter was born in New York City in 1943. His career has encompassed four areas of activity:  education, political involvement, music, and writing. In the 1960's, he began his political activities by working with New York City Reform Democrats. In 1968, while he was a graduate teaching assistant at Queens College, he worked for the presidential campaign of New York Senator Robert Kennedy. Later, in 1988, he was asked by the Democratic Party to run for the New York State Senate, and when he moved to Erie, the Democrats again approached him to run for Congress, which he did in both 2004 and 2006. Porter has been a published composer since 1970. In all, he has written over 150 works for the concert and musical stage. His choral compositions continue to be performed worldwide. He has written over 20 books on topics ranging from fiction to education and philosophy to political analysis. Today, Porter continues to be active in local politics and continues to write and compose. He is married to Rita, his wife of 36 years, and together they have devoted much of their time to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and abandoned dogs.
