  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) September 07, 2013 - PrescribeWellness founded A Million More to raise awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare for all Americans. Each year support has expanded and now includes organizations representing more than 15,000 community pharmacies across America, which have joined forces in the movement to increase pharmacy-provided vaccines.

As the most accessible healthcare professional in America, community pharmacists are leading the charge in preventive health management, servicing more than 200 million patients every week.

"I'm a huge fan of the 'herd immunity,' meaning if we get enough people in every community immunized it protects the entire community," said Dr. Marcus Lehman, spokesperson for A Million More. "We believe that the best place for immunizations to take place is inside the neighborhood pharmacy."

The flu is a serious illness that is very contagious. According to the CDC, on average, 200,000 Americans are hospitalized each year because of flu complications. An annual flu shot is one important step towards protecting the health of our communities. However, only 46 percent of the American population receives the flu vaccine, leaving pharmacists with a great opportunity to increase this percentage.

Organizations participating in A Million More include: American Associated Pharmacies, American Pharmacies, American Pharmacy Services, Keystone Pharmacy Purchasing Alliance, Pace Alliance, Partners in Pharmacy Cooperative, PBA Health / TrueCare Pharmacies, Pharmacy Franchisees & Owners Association, Pharmacy Services Inc., PPSC, Quality Care Pharmacies, RxPlus Pharmacies, Smart-Fill, Southern Pharmacy Cooperative and United Pharmacy Network.

"A Million More is a great way to raise community awareness of the services that local pharmacies offer," said Cindy Mincy, PPSC President and CEO. "We are pleased to provide our pharmacy members this benefit of increasing their ancillary services and improving the health of their communities."

The national flu shot campaign allows pharmacies to list all their ancillary services on www.AMillionMore.com. The site is promoted via social media, viral marketing, in-store promotions, and community-based elements which aid pharmacists in promoting immunizations to their community.

"Thanks to the support from so many state and national organizations, we are pleased to offer this community service completely free to all our partner members," said Al Babbington, PrescribeWellness CEO. "In fact, with their support, we are now able to provide the service free to pharmacies using selected dispensing software. These software providers include CarePoint, ComputerRx, Cost Effective Computer Systems, Digital Rx, Digital Simplistics, Key Centrix, Kroll Pharmacy Software, Liberty, McKesson PharmacyRx, PioneerRx, PDX,PK, RNA, and RX30. The list continues to grow."
