  • Oakland, CA (1888PressRelease) April 13, 2022 - Montuno Productions is happy to announce The Third Annual Bay Area Latin Jazz Festival, scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rowell Ranch, a picturesque, park-like venue operated and maintained by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD). Rowell Ranch is located at 9725 Dublin Canyon, Rd., Castro Valley, CA 94552.

In terms of making a mark on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, the festival hit the ground running in 2019, when Montuno Productions’ founder and CEO, Luis R. Mendoza, took the time to carefully curate the entertainment lineup, focusing on presenting a very talented and diverse group of artists, many of whom have won multiple awards and have been members of world-renowned bands, including Santana and Fania All-Stars, among others.

In 2021, during the second annual festival, MP took the same approach, presenting a top-notch lineup that included the legendary Cuban vocalist, songwriter, and band leader, Bobi Céspedes (as the headliner), and four-time Grammy Award winner Oscar Hernández and his Latin jazz ensemble, Alma Libre. (Hernández is also the band leader of 3-time Grammy winners, Spanish Harlem Orchestra).

For the Third Annual Bay Area Latin Jazz Festival in 2022, MP will continue the trajectory it set in 2019 by once again regaling audiences with some of the best local talent, as well as the headlining band, Puerto Rico-based, Luis González “El Tsunami De La Salsa” Y Su Orquesta, who will be celebrating the release of their latest CD, 50 Años – Mi Música… Mi Pasión. González’ illustrious musical career includes stints with world-renowned salsa bands, including Ray Barretto, Willie Rosario, Mulenze, Luis Perico Ortíz, and Tommy Olivencia.

The rest of the exceptionally talented and diverse lineup for 2022 include Latin Jazz Collective with John Nava; Edgardo & Candela; VibraSÓN Latin Band; Pascal Bokar Afro Blue Grazz Band; Bululú; and MC & DJ, long-time Bay Area radio personality, Luis Medina.

“When planning the entertainment lineup, we focus on both presenting some of the favorite Latin jazz bands of Bay Area-based fans, as well as exposing them to new sounds and genres,” said Luis R. Mendoza, founder of the Bay Area Latin Jazz Festival.

In 2022 that role will be filled by award-winning guitarist, vocalist, and band leader, Pascal Bokar and his Afro Blue Grazz Band whose arrangements “tells the story of the early tonalities of American music in which the banjo (original string instrument of West Africa) and the balafon (ancestor of the xylophone) speak their original language in the contemporary musical landscape of American tonal colors inclusive of Blues, Bluegrass, Gospel and Jazz traditions,” according to Dr. Bokar, recipient of the Jim Hall Master Award For Guitarists (Berklee College), and the Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award .

The celebration will showcase the cultural/musical contributions of Latin Jazz, with an emphasis on Afro-Caribbean and Latin American influences. Festival attendees will be able to enjoy a diverse array of food, music, dance, and artistry. There will be booth space available for Bay Area merchants, food vendors, artisans, and community organizations.

Festivalgoers will also have access to several pre-festival events, including livestreaming concerts, and exclusive footage of interviews with Latin music luminaries in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. They will also be able to purchase festival-related merchandise (online), including T-shirts, and DVDs of video footage from the 2019 and 2021 festivals.

As part of its community outreach efforts, Montuno Productions will seek to bring small, independently owned local businesses, community organizations, and music fans together, with the goal of making a positive contribution to the arts and the economic and cultural vibrancy, resiliency, and strength of East Bay communities.
