Monterey Symphony Hosts Women's Night Out Celebration Prior to Pianist Josu de Solaun's Concert at Sunset Center on Feb. 17

  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) January 26, 2018 - Women’s Night Out opens at 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, with a pre-concert reception, followed by a concert with celebrated Spanish pianist Josu de Solaun at 8 p.m. at the Sunset Center in Carmel.

    Women’s Night Out celebrates and invites powerful women on the Monterey Peninsula to mix and mingle, sip wine and nibble on appetizers. Woman-owned and operated businesses will be featured, including Twisted Roots Winery, Lugano Swiss Bistro, Grace Lifestyle Boutique, In Bloom Salon and Spa and more.

    De Solaun, first-prize winner at the 2014 Enescu Piano Competition, will perform Camille Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 5, Op. 103 in a concert that also will include Symphony renditions of Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80, and Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 2, Op. 61.

    De Solaun's teachers, mentors, and musical influences have included Nina Svetlanova, Horacio Gutierrez, Ricardo Roca, Ana Guijarro, Maria Teresa Naranjo, Albert and Miyoko Lotto, Joaquin Achucarro, Matti Raekallio, Edna Golandsky, and Jerome Lowenthal.
    Symphony audiences will remember de Solaun for his previous solo recital, featuring Mussogorky's “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
