Mission Fifty, Hoboken's First Co-Working Space, Set to Open Doors in Late August

  • Jersey City, NJ (1888PressRelease) August 08, 2011 - Entrepreneurs and freelancers frequently face the same question: where to do their work? The solitude and lack of inspiration found in a home office - or the distractions of the local wi-fi enabled coffee shop - often will not do. That's where Mission Fifty, Hoboken, N.J.'s first co-working space, will come in.

Set to open its doors in late August, Mission Fifty is located in the 3,000± sq.-ft. penthouse of the Hoboken Business Center (HBC) at 50 Harrison Street. It will offer members a range of flexible leasing terms from daily to monthly options for workspace at communal dedicated and undedicated tables as well as dedicated one- and two-person offices. Services provided include internet connectivity; phones; printing, copying and faxing; mail services; a conference room; and kitchenette with coffee station.

Mission Fifty is the collective vision of founders Aaron Price, Michael Pierce and Greg Dell'Aquila. As the name suggests, this new co-working space is a place for "entrepreneurs on a mission." Price, Pierce and Dell'Aquila expect that members of this collaborative community will likely be focused on building their own tech startups and also include those from the variety of disciplines often needed to get a business off the ground from HR professionals and lawyers to graphic and web designers, among others.

"We are excited to become an integral part of the technology hub growing in New Jersey, specifically Hoboken," said Price. "Mission Fifty will further organize the tech community here and encourage the sharing of best practices in order to grow businesses smarter and faster."

In support of that goal, Mission Fifty plans to host weekly Junto meetings, which could be likened to brainstorming sessions. Junto forums were first made famous by Ben Franklin in 1727 when he organized a club of his peers focused on mutual improvement. Mission Fifty will also host classes and guest speakers and have demo days in which startups present their companies to investors, clients, and the community.

"Members of Mission Fifty will feed off the creative energy and find a supportive environment where they can easily bounce ideas off one another," added Dell'Aquila.

The three founders of Mission Fifty are all successful entrepreneurs in their own right. In April of 2010, Price established the Hoboken Technology Meetup (HTM), New Jersey's fastest growing startup community with membership nearing 1,000 "techies." HTM holds monthly meetings for members featuring guest speakers. Price is also the entrepreneur-at-large for DFJ Gotham Ventures, a Manhattan-based, early-stage venture capital firm focused primarily on investments in technology startups based in the Northeast U.S. and Israel. In addition, he founded MakeMania.com, a web site for do-it-yourselfers who want to showcase the results of their hobbies and passions.

Dell'Aquila is the president of JDA Group (JDA), a privately-held commercial and residential development company serving the NY/NJ metropolitan area. Under the leadership of Dell'Aquila, the company is known for its results-oriented, hands-on approach beginning with acquisition and development of properties through construction, leasing and property management. JDA is the developer, owner and manager of HBC, a thriving 80,000-sq.ft.office building and home of Mission Fifty.

According to DeskMag, a co-working trade magazine, the number of co-working spaces increased by 17% worldwide from February to May this year. DeskMag's latest figures list the total number of co-working spaces at 820 across the globe.
