  • (1888PressRelease) April 14, 2016 - Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Mr Vijay Sampla inaugurated Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference 'Vistaar' at LPU today. 'Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCIA)' and Lovely Professional University have collaborated to organize two-day Conference at the campus. Conference witnessed 200+ persons with spine-injuries those assembled at the campus. It became a very emotional as well as an inspiring environment during the conference when affected persons shared their stories of the days when their life got altogether changed because of accidents, unwanted fights or natural calamities.

    Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Medical Director of Indian Spinal Injuries Center Dr HS Chhabra, President SCIA Parvinder Singh were also present on the main dais. Police Officers, Politicians, Doctors, NGOs and more than 1000 other people are actively participating in the conference to motivate, awaken and guide the affected persons and the society. On this occasion, many wheel-chairs were also distributed to make injured persons live active life of mobility and self-dependence. An inspiring book 'Yadon Ka Safarnama', written by a spine-injury affected person, was also released.

    Addressing the mammoth congregation of affected persons, their family members and LPU students of Physiotherapy department, Minister Mr Sampla shared: "I have learnt how to live a life of strong will-power and positivity from the persons affected with spine cord injuries. Life is another name to live heroically and in service to others." Praising the benevolent and humane deeds taken at LPU regularly, Mr Sampla assured Spinal Cord Injury Association to forward their proposal of required Rehabilitation Center to the Central Government for acceptance. A memorandum in this regard was handed over to Hon'ble Minister.

    Welcoming the elite guests, LPU Chancellor Mr Mittal appreciated the works of the association and addressed all affected persons as "the real heroes" of the society who are symbols for even able bodied persons for living daring and normal social life in spite of having severe sufferings. Offering certain services from the university, emotional Mr Mittal shared: "The affected persons can join any of LPU Program free of cost, and they and their spouses can also apply for jobs at LPU. Their children will also be provided 50% fee waiver in their programs. Moreover, our physiotherapy center will provide free caring for such affected ones on needs. We will also try to introduce a short course of awakening in the curriculum so that such mishaps may be controlled in the beginning itself."

    Prior to this, SCIA President Parvinder Sonu, Vice President Davinder Singh, Abhay Dogra from New Delhi, Harminder Singh (Punjab), Nikhil Gupta (Ghaziabad), Manoj Dawar (Delhi), Nisha Gupta (Mumbai), Rajiv Virat (Delhi), Mandip Kaur (NurMahal) and many more shared in common that it was their will-power, support of their family members and friends that made them to lead a respectable and self-dependent life. Related persons from different departments awakened the sufferers and other persons how to have a check on such injuries in initial stages.
