  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2013 - Military Women in Need (MWIN) has been awarded a $50,000 grant over two years from Newman's Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. The award to Military Women in Need reflects the ongoing commitment of Newman's Own Foundation to organizations serving military service personnel, veterans, and their families.

"We are overjoyed with Newman's Own Foundation's contribution which will greatly enhance Military Women in Need's capabilities to provide the women in our community with stable and enriched lives," said Ranlyn Tilley Hill, Executive Director of Military Women in Need. "We look forward to expanding our reach and further fulfilling our mission with this grant."

Military Women in Need is dedicated to preventing homelessness and improving the quality of life for women veterans, survivors of veterans and their children. MWIN will use the grant to amplify its Emergency Subsidies Program, which provide short-term, high impact financial assistance to clients in times of need.

"We are proud of the women who have made innumerable sacrifices in service to our country," said Lisa Walker, Managing Director of Newman's Own Foundation. "We recognize that these women have unique experiences that are just beginning to be addressed. This funding will help ensure they receive assistance specific to their needs."

Paul Newman established the Foundation in 2005, as a means of continuing his pledge to donate to charity all net profits and royalties from the sale of products from Newman's Own, Inc. Since the food company's founding in 1982, Newman and Newman's Own Foundation have donated more than $370 million to thousands of charities worldwide.

Military Women in Need (MWIN) serves women veterans and their families by providing support in the form of housing assistance, emergency subsidies, resource and referral services, and home visits, empowering women who sacrificed for our freedom to live their lives with continued independence and dignity. MWIN is the only organization in California whose primary purpose is the prevention of homelessness among women veterans and survivors of veterans.
