  • (1888PressRelease) November 20, 2013 - The Middle East is the topic of The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Wednesday, November 20, 3 pm ET when leading Israeli columnist and author, Ari Shavit; veteran war correspondent and author Scott Anderson; Distinguished Professor in the Department of History at American University and author, Richard Breitman visit the show.

Born in Rehovot, Israel, Ari Shavit served as a paratrooper in the IDF and studied philosophy at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In the 1980s, he wrote for the progressive weekly Koteret Rashit, in the early 1990s, he was Chairperson of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, and in 1995, he joined Haaretz, where he serves on the editorial board. He is also a leading commentator on Israeli public television. Shavit's new book, My Promised Land, The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel is the winner of The Natan Book Award.

As a veteran war correspondent, Scott Anderson has reported from Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Northern Ireland, Chechnya, Sudan, Bosnia, El Salvador and many other strife-torn countries. A contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine, his work has also appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, and Harper's. His book Lawrence in Arabia: War Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East, is the book New York Times reviewer Janet Maslin hailed as "a fascinating book, the best work of military history in recent memory and an illuminating analysis of issues that still loom large today."

Richard Breitman, the author of ten books and many articles in German history, U.S. history, and the Holocaust, has served as director of historical research for the Nazi War Criminal Records and Imperial Japanese Records Interagency Working Group. He is editor of the scholarly journal Holocaust and Genocide Studies. His latest book, FDR and The Jews, co-authored with Allan J. Lichtman, is a highly-controversial book that takes a new look at the often contentious lingering debate over whether Franklin Delano Roosevelt turned his back on the Jews of Hitler's Europe.
