  • (1888PressRelease) December 19, 2012 - "We wanted to get the message across to the youth, but we didn't want to seem too preachy. We wanted to showcase voting as the 'cool' thing to do", says Pravin Misra, faculty member and mentor for the campaign. "We didn't just want to use the regular media of TV, radio and print. The youth is growing weary of all the traditional methods, so we decided to do something different and hence we chose to do a flashmob. Ideas expressed through flashmobs are making huge gateways in getting the message across lately. They are considered hip, fun, entertaining and informative. We knew this was the perfect medium to get across to our target audience", he continued.

The flashmob was performed at a popular mall to the tunes of Meri Umar ke Naujawaanon and the current chartbuster Gangnam style whose lyrics were modified by Prachi Abhyankar who is a CCC student at MICA.

When asked about the event, Abhishek Lamba, again a student of CCC said, "We knew a flashmob would grab more eyeballs, generate good PR and it had a possibility of going viral which would ensure our message reached a much wider audience. We are actually hoping that other students and organizations all over the country use our music and organize flashmobs of their own." One of the biggest challenges, Pravin says, was to ensure that the campaign just focused on encouraging youth to vote and did not appear to be biased towards any political party as such.

The complete campaign included a plan which involved TVCs, print ads, the flashmob and extensive use of digital media. Students came up with individual ideas and the best ones were selected by common consensus. The flashmob video, which garnered over 700 views on the day of its launch, has been approved by the Chief Electoral Office of Gujarat. A second video, the TVC, was launched on Youtube today, two days before the election campaign and is being promoted exhaustively on the institute's Facebook and Twitter channel.

The entire project was completely in-house, from the conception of the idea to planning to implementation. The campaign saw participation from the entire CCC batch and some PGDM(C) volunteers.

The students hope to target more social issues in the future and come up with such campaigns which can actually make a standing impact on the people.
