  • (1888PressRelease) March 21, 2013 - The play was held as a part of the many activities being conducted by MICA's newly conceived committee GEASH, standing for Gender Equality and Anti-Sexual Harassment. The committee's inception was prompted by the uproar caused due to rising number of atrocities perpetrated on women all across the country.

Highlighting the many challenges a girl can face when she grows up without education in a world where literacy is a must, the street play aimed at making the villagers aware of the problem at hand and encouraged them to send their daughters to school. It also encouraged them to not force the girls to drop out of school and to let them fulfil their dreams. Through the story of two girls, one who educates herself and one who is illiterate, the play engaged the local community by real-life incidents woven into the play showing how illiterate girls can be later cheated and left behind in the society.

Staged by students of MICA, the play was a part of the one-week long activities held by GEASH to interact with the local community and sensitize them about gender equality. The events planned include a graffiti event where students will be encouraged to express themselves through graffiti and a panel discussion by eminent speakers like Ms.Zakia Soman, Dr.Mukul Sinha and Ms.Arti Nair.
