  • (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2013 - Organised for the first time, Aapno Manch is an elocution competition for school students. There were two categories: Class V to VII and Class VIII to X. The event was open to students from five schools in Shela, Ghuma , Kaneti and Telav- which form the main listenership of MICAVAANI.

The prelims were held across five schools on 25-26th February 2013, where school students, delivered speeches bubbling with energy and confidence. The best entries from these schools qualified for the final round, held on the MICA campus.

"This year, we wanted to do something to involve the students and encourage them to be well-educated. The dropout ratio is quite high here, especially for girls. So we will make it a point to meet the parents of the winners, most of whom are girls, to give them the cash prizes and urge them to educate their daughters to become responsible individuals" said Candida D'Souza, member of the MICAVAANI Team. The teachers of the school encouraged the initiative. Mr N.K Patel, teacher at the Telav Madhyamik Vidyalaya said "Aapno Manch has given a great platform to our students to bring out their talent. We have had a long association with MICA, and are glad to reinforce it this year with an event that is really meaningful and moving, for both the students and us teachers."

The event was judged by Prof. Falguni Vasavada-Oza and Prof. Harmony Siganporia of MICA, who were elated to see the kids' performance. Prof. Oza rightly pointed out that thanks were due greatly to teachers who prepared these students and encouraged them to speak at this stage.

Professor Falguni went on to say. "It was a beautiful experience to hear all these kids deliver their speeches so confidently. They have put a lot of heart in this competition, and it shows in the way they spoke today. This is why, winning or losing is not important...What matters the most is honestly giving it your best shot." Prof Harmony too, appreciated the entire event, "I am overwhelmed by the way these young kids have come and delivered their speeches today. I was smiling throughout the event- thanks to their effort and spirit. I am so glad to be present at the event!"

Aapno Manch 2013 has managed to touch the hearts of all students and teachers who participated in one way or the other. MICAVAANI hopes to continue being relevant to its listeners in the future too.
