  • (1888PressRelease) December 30, 2022 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) has amended its technical regulation on food contact cellulosic materials and articles.

Mercosur/GMC/Res. No. 26/22 was issued in November 2022. It revises GMC Resolution No. 40/15 ‘Mercosur Technical Regulation on Cellulosic Materials, Packaging and Equipment Intended to be in Contact with Food’ by establishing a gray scale of five for the migration of pigments and dyes from food contact paper and board.

Previously, under GMC Resolution No. 40/15, the only requirement was that pigments and dyes must not migrate according to testing to BS EN 646 ‘Paper and board intended to come into contact with foodstuffs – Determination of color fastness of dyed paper and board’.

Member states – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay – must transpose the revision into national law by May 16, 2023.
