  • Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC (1888PressRelease) December 06, 2014 - Melodi Terhune, Clark Nexsen senior interior designer, has been named a 2014 Alumni Fellow by Mississippi State University's College of Architecture, Art and Design. Sponsored by the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, the colleges, and the Office of the Provost, the Alumni Fellows Program recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective careers. The Alumni Fellow Program aims to recognize the most distinguished graduates by showcasing their talents and accomplishments to the University's current students in an effort to strengthen the positive influence the College provides through its graduates.

Terhune is a Certified Interior Designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a LEED Accredited Professional in Clark Nexsen's Virginia Beach corporate headquarters. She has received numerous awards for her work at Clark Nexsen which has been recognized by the Virginia Chapter of ASID and the Virginia/West Virginia chapter of IIDA. She currently serves on MSU's Interior Design Advisory Board and is past president of the Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Melodi recently spoke to students from MSU's College of Architecture, Art and Design about her body of work which has concentrated on the architectural and interior design of higher education, government, healthcare, and commercial projects. She shared her experiences working on large scale projects within a multi-discipline team environment and stressed the importance of creativity and communication. Melodi shared with the students that the most successfully designed projects balance both functional and aesthetic considerations and involve an emphasis on listening to the client's needs during project programming and design development. She also provided insight and answered questions regarding what students should expect after graduation as they transition into their chosen career field.

Terhune was one of eight fellows chosen to represent each of the academic colleges at MSU. The 2014 fellows are among the university's nearly 130,000 living alumni worldwide. Each honoree carries the distinction for life.

"We are proud to welcome some of Mississippi State's most accomplished alumni as our Silver Anniversary fellows group," said Jeff Davis, the alumni association's executive director at MSU. "Each of these individuals brings a wealth of experience in their fields to share with students and faculty across the university."
