  • (1888PressRelease) August 15, 2014 - Media Links will receive an Emmy® award for Standardization and Productization of JPEG2000 (J2K) Interoperability.

J2K video compression offers broadcasters and network service providers an interoperable method to transport high quality contribution video. Interoperable JPEG2000 provides extremely high video quality with minimal latency over IP/Ethernet networks.

Through the work of the Video Services Forum (VSF) and manufacturers such as Media Links, widespread adoption of its JPEG2000 technical recommendation is allowing an interoperable method of formatting JPEG2000 streams for transmission over IP. With the adoption of this technical recommendation, signals can be handed off between carriers utilizing different encoding and decoding equipment, while maintaining interoperability. This technical recommendation allows for real-time streaming, as well as encapsulated audio and ancillary data over IP. Other advantages of interoperable J2K include virtually lossless compression, low latency, low end-to-end delay, and error handling providing very robust delivery.

Media Links is well known for its MD8000 video over IP media transport solutions. The advanced capabilities and quality of the MD8000 provide next-generation video over IP transmission in an efficient, seamless, and highly reliable way that addresses the need for carriers to connect directly to IP networks for long-haul, multiple-wavelength transport links, resulting in significant cost savings. Coupled with JPEG2000 compression technology, the MD8000 is an ideal solution for transporting content between remote venues, over large distances. Media Links recently has been a critical asset to the world's most watched sporting events, including the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup, demonstrating that its solutions are a robust and trusted technology for live sports transmission between broadcast and production facilities.

"The National Academy's Technology and Engineering Achievement Committee is pleased to honor Media Links, whose innovation and vision have materially affected the way the audience views television and have set the standard for technological excellence in the industry," said committee Chairman, Robert P. Seidel, Vice President of CBS Engineering and Advanced Technology and Chairman, Engineering Achievement Committee, NATAS.

"JPEG 2000 technology is a key component to the Media Links strategy of enabling video over IP with efficiency, consistency, and quality," comments Takatsugo Ono, Chairman, President & CEO of Media Global Links. "We are honored to have been a chosen as one of the few companies honored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for technological innovation, and to be recognized by our peers and industry experts for our contributions to the media & entertainment industry."

The Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards are presented by NATAS to individuals, companies, or to scientific or technical organizations in recognition of significant developments and contributions to the technological and engineering aspects of television. The 66th Annual Technology and Engineering Emmy® Awards will be presented on January 8, 2015 at the Consumer Electronics (CES) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
