  • (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2012 - Petaling Jaya - It was a night of celebration when the Maybank-MoneyTree Young Entrepreneur Startup (YES) Challenge (Season 4) came to a grand closure during the "YES 4 Red Carpet Party" held at the MUZEUM, Kota Damansara. The event was organized by MoneyTree (M) Sdn Bhd, along with its program partner and main sponsor, Maybank.

    Among the guests who graced the event were Mr Choong Wai Hong (Executive Vice President, Head of HNW & Affluent Banking, Maybank), Mr Mohd Hanif Suadi (Executive Vice President, Head of Community Distribution, Maybank), Mr. Anthony Umann (Silicon Valley startup veteran now based in Asia) and Ms Christy Lee (CEO of Techmaki). Approximately, 150 invited guests attended the event including the YES Advisory Panel, corporate partners, sponsors and students from more than 15 universities and colleges.

    In line with the night's theme: "Pirate Ship - Charting Yer Own Course", all YES 4 Finalists donned their pirate costumes and took on the role of "Captain" of their own ship and destinies, representing the young aspiring entrepreneurs who refuse to be mediocre and chose instead to be extraordinary by charting their own course.

    The Top 4 YES Finalists are "PaceMaker" from International Medical University (IMU), "EcoHeart" from University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, "Rent A Glam" from Taylor's University and "Shop N Seek" from INTI University.

    Guests were greeted with an opening performance by the live band from MUZEUM, followed by the YES 4 finalists' video presentations.

    The highlight of the YES 4 Red Carpet Party was the announcement of the YES 4 Grand Prize Winner, Team "PaceMaker". Its founder, Goo Zhen Qiang managed to single-handedly beat 20 other teams to clinch the title and ultimately Win the RM20,000 prize money with his creation, "PaceMaker" - a smart phone application. The "PaceMaker" application functions as a handy log book that allows healthcare professionals to record vital information while on the go. Not only does it record data, it also performs everyday statistical analysis that allows healthcare professionals to analyze the data recorded by the app for future reference. The first version of "PaceMaker" is now being sold on App Store.

    Also showcased during the YES 4 Red Carpet Party was "Centsless", a company born, grown and nurtured from the YES Challenge. Co-founders of "Centsless", Jolene Sim and Tan Su Zhen in their introductory speech stated "Essentially, Centsless is a loyalty system that throws in an element of fun to a shopper's experience without any hassle. No cards. No QR codes. Imagine being rewarded for all your purchases, both online and offline, REAL TIME, EVERYTIME. We'll be launching in a couple of months so keep your eyes peeled.     There were also several exciting activities held throughout the night. One of the main contests was "Snap and Win", where the winner was awarded with a 3-Day 2-Night stay in China, sponsored by the MUZEUM, Kota Damansara. Other prizes given out during the party include the 'Best Dressed Pirate' Award, 'Best Dancer Award' where participants would walk away with a Samsung 23" Monitor sponsored by "Centsless", as well as mystery prizes for 10 'Wanted' Game winners.

    The Maybank MoneyTree YES challenge is a business challenge organized by MoneyTree to help Young, Vibrant Entrepreneur Aspirants launch their business ideas into the market and ultimately turn those ideas into profitable ventures. The challenge not only allows young Entrepreneurs / aspiring Entrepreneurs to learn skills that would sharpen their Entrepreneurial mindsets, but to also provide them with the opportunity to experience the practical applications of the Entrepreneurial skills they acquired through the MoneyTree Entrepreneur Fast Track program.
