  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2021 - Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) is honored to have participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking for the NJ Windport.

According to Andy Raichle, P.E., Vice President (Matrix), “The State of New Jersey and PSEG have joined forces to develop the Nation’s first and most ambitious offshore wind production port. Matrix is proud to be a partner of the AECOM-Tishman team that was awarded the Port’s construction contract, which further consolidates our position in the NY/NJ offshore wind market. This project is transformative for New Jersey and its leadership position in the US Offshore Wind industry. The Port’s strategic location will serve the entirety of the Mid-Atlantic and New England offshore region, and is attracting substantial investment from domestic and international wind power equipment production companies. We applaud the State’s entry into a project labor agreement (PLA) for construction of the Port that prioritizes the utilization of New Jersey labor and diverse suppliers.”

Jayne Warne, PE, President, concurs, “As a New Jersey-based company, we are excited that our state is embarking on a leadership role for clean energy production to combat the effects of climate change, and look forward to supporting the great State of New Jersey’s efforts for years to come.

Gov. Phil Murphy joined U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, senior state officials, federal and state lawmakers, trade unionists and environmental activists to launch the New Jersey Wind Port where operators will marshal and assemble the components that make up the giant turbines.

The facility, on 200 acres adjoining the Salem County nuclear-power complex, will be the nation’s first purpose-built onshore site for servicing an industry that’s key to achieving the Murphy administration’s clean-energy goals, and contributing to a global target of cutting carbon emissions.

Governor Phil Murphy remarked, “Today, I finally think we can put that old way of thinking to bed for good. Fighting climate change and creating good jobs do – and must – go hand in hand.”

This project was projected to cost $300 and $400 million dollars, and will be under the management of New Jersey's Economic Development Agency.
