  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 05, 2019 - Venetia Lannon, Vice President, Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The FUND for Lake George.

    The FUND of Lake George set forth an initiative to protect the lake through community partnerships, innovative science-guided projects, and direct investment in lake-protection efforts. Venetia will serve as a great addition to the board for not only her expertise but her passion for the lake. Lannon is inspired by FUND’s approach toward efficiently managing and tackling the challenges that pose a threat to the lake.

    Lannon is based in Matrix’s New York city office where her numerous responsibilities include climate adaptation services with a focus on nature-based systems for waterfront facilities and stormwater management.

    Lannon’s extensive waterfront, environmental, and governmental affairs knowledge and experience will serve The FUND well. As Deputy Secretary for the Environment with the New York State Office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, she oversaw all aspects of the State's environmental agencies, including the Department of Environmental Conservation, Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation, Environmental Facilities Corporation, Hudson River Park Trust, and the Adirondack Park Agency. Lannon joins the following distinguished members of The FUND’s Board of Trustees: Chairman Jeff Killeen, Vice Chairman and Chief Development Officer Bob Bailey, Vice Chairman William Creighton, Secretary and Strategic Initiatives Officer Tom West, Chief Financial Officer Ike Wolgin, Lucinda H.     As a member of Governor Cuomo’s cabinet, Lannon was lauded for her role in passing the $2.5B Clean Water Infrastructure Act, launching the Environmental Justice/Just Transition Working Group, leading the Governor’s Water Quality Rapid Response Team, and overseeing the largest addition to the Forest Preserve in the Adirondack Park’s history.

    In her previous role as Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, she oversaw all aspects of the agency’s work in New York City, and as Senior Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, she led the Maritime Group, where she was instrumental in the development of the East River Ferry service, the reactivation of the South Brooklyn freight rail system, and the barge-served recycling facility at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal; she was a key contributor to New York City’s Solid Waste Management Plan and the first lead of Mayor Bloomberg’s Waterfront Management Advisory Board.
