  • Buffalo-Niagara Falls, NY (1888PressRelease) July 01, 2010 - When you're a metal fabrication shop that advertises custom work, you can expect nearly any kind of request. Brackets, conveyors, cyclones, cutting tables, you name it. But this spring and summer Maple Grove Enterprises faces their largest and most exciting metal fabrication job to date: four monumental sculptures by renowned artist Albert Paley.

These abstract metal sculptures will guard the four corners of the 24th Street Bridge in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Nearly $9 million dollars has been spent by the Iowa West Foundation to establish Council Bluffs as a major public arts center. Albert Paley is one of the many world-class artists commissioned for this major project.

Maple Grove Enterprises already has a track record with the artist. Over the years, they have sandblasted and coated a number of Paley's pieces. Then last year, he selected the company to fabricate and install his 64-foot sculpture for the Clay Center in West Virginia. Based on the success of that project, Paley hired Maple Grove Enterprises again this year for the Council Bluffs job.

The sculptures, consisting mainly of corten and stainless steel, are first fabricated and then erected at the company's shop in Arcade, NY. After each sculpture is completed, it is disassembled to make room for the next one. Ultimately, all of the sculptures will be shipped to Council Bluffs in August to be erected once again by the Maple Grove Enterprises crew.
