  • (1888PressRelease) August 28, 2015 - Thai culinary lifestyle group Mango Tree Worldwide has released its tasting menu and cooking demonstration programme to whet appetites for its first-ever pop-up restaurant, a 'Taste of Thailand by Mango Tree', which will run from August 18 September 14, 2015 at EXPO 2015 in Europe's unofficial food capital, Milan.

    'Taste of Thailand by Mango Tree' is an initiative of Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion via its Thai Trade Center Milan to showcase Thai cuisine at the food-themed EXPO 2015. Mango Tree Worldwide has been selected to represent the nation's cuisine on the world's grandest stage and to deliver an authentic Thai experience, creating a pop-up restaurant for a month at La Rinascente, Milan's most historic department store.

    From August 18th to September 14th, 2015, Mango Tree brings the true Thai spirit to Bar della Rina, which has been transformed with artistic minimalism and for the next month will offer a special Thai menu with a wide variety of specialties from the nation's four regions (Central, North, North-east and South), as well as cooking demonstrations and classes and even some Thai-inspired mixology creations by Mango Tree.

    Mango Tree founder and CEO Pitaya Phanphensophon said the excitement was building amongst the Mango Tree team and he was confident the pop-up would be a success and do Thailand proud. "It is looking very cool and I cant wait to serve up some of our creations and Thai classics in one of the world's most popular cities," he said.

    The menu is divided into 'Small Plate' and 'Main Dish' offerings, with the former including Som Tum Apple Goong Sod (Green apple, fresh prawn, cherry tomato, peanut, chili-lime dressing); Yum Makuer Kai Luak (Grilled Aubergine Salad with soft boiled egg, lime, chili paste, fresh thai herbs; Soong Thong Ped (Roast Duck Springroll with spicy hoisin sriracha sauce), Nam Tok Nuea (Chargrilled Beef Brisket with Isan tamarind dressing, fresh thai herbs), Satay Gai (Grilled turmeric chicken skewers, cucumber, peanut sauce).

    Main Dishes imparting a Taste of Thailand by Mango Tree include Pad Thai Goong (Stir Fried Rice Noodle with Prawns, sweet tamarind sauce, bean sprouts, peanuts), Chiangmai Kow Soi Nuea (Northern-style Yellow Curry Noodle, braised beef brisket, yellow curry, crispy noodles); Gai Yang (Roast Chicken, Marinated spring chicken, Thai herbs, Isan tamarind dipping sauce); Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai (Spring Chicken Green Curry, Sweet Thai basil, Thai eggplant, jasmine rice); Gaeng Phed Ped (Duck Confit Red Curry with cherry tomato, basil, apricot, pineapple, jasmine rice); Massamun Nuea (Braised Beef Brisket Massamun-style).

    Signature Mango Tree cocktails with a taste of Siam include Amethyst Jito (roselle & butterfly pea oolong tea, rum, orange liqueur, lime juice, soda); White Pearl Gin Tonic (jasmine rice white tea, white pearl tea, gin, tonic water); Tom Kha Siam (vodka, coconut liqueur, lychee, lychee juice, lime juice, red chil, kaffir lime), Aperol Cocktail (aperol, vodka, lemon juice, orange juice, mango juice), Roselle Mocktail (roselle & butterfly pea oolong tea, cranberry juice, elder flower syrup, lemon juice).

    Mango Tree spokesperson and managing director Trevor MacKenzie said a mix of tradition, modern spirit and a creative twist would intrigue and delight Expo visitors and Milan residents, with whimsical touches including a dedicated area for a graphic Mango Tree with removable leaves which visitors can take home, offering facts on ingredients, flavours and facts about Thai cooking.

    "In the bigger picture, and looking ahead to after EXPO 2015, we are confident the new friends we make and new fans our brand wins will help in our strategic objective of introducing Thai cuisine on a more permanent basis in the European Union," Mr MacKenzie said.

    He said the weekend cooking demonstrations would be a highlight, with fascinating secrets and handy tips on how to create some classic and some creatively tweaked Thai dishes. "This will be great fun and very educational too," Mr MacKenzie said.

    La Rinascente, where Taste of Thailand by Mango Tree is located, overlooks the Duomo, an elaborate Gothic masterpiece hailed as the world's most beautiful cathedral and one of its biggest, begun in 1386 and not completed until 1965.
